A Letter From A Friend

About a year ago, a very good and long time friend of mine was at a tough place in his life. Very suddenly and all at once, many things were going the wrong way for him. He deserved none of them, nor were they created through any fault of his own. He just happened upon a string of bad luck.

During his hard times, I spent quite a bit of time with him. We talked for hours, discussing the bewildering events he had faced, trying to understand why this was happening to him. Talking to a good friend during a time like that helps a great amount. I knew this and I did what I could.

But now he is doing much better. He fixed what he could and changed the rest. He’s back on top now, and once again he is a happy person. He wrote a letter of thanks to me and requested that I post it here. So here it is, unedited and exactly as he wrote it.

And Ralph, thank you for being a great friend.
You are easily one of the best people I have ever met.

Something happened about a year ago. I was at the lowest point in my life. Fortunately there was a true friend to help me through it.

Possibly jeopardizing his own marriage, he spent countless nights & many hours on the phone just listening & offering advice if asked.

He wrote a poem, “Advice To A True Friend”, that not only helped me, but probably many others. It can probably still be found on his site.

I don’t even own a computer, let alone know how to use one. I hope that somehow this finds it’s way onto the internet so that others may find some comfort in it.

I know I don’t have the eloquence of speech or the helpful caring attitude he showed when I needed it most.

Maybe someone else can help him in the way he helped me. I will also be there for him as much as I can .

There is no greater gift than a true friend.

Ralph
