Sampling My Beer
I broke open a bottle of my homebrew tonight. It's not suppose to be ready for five more days, but the suspense was killing me.
And now for a review of my latest creation.
This has to be one of the best beers I've ever tasted. I don't mean to blow my own horn, but something went right this time. It must have had a lot to do with my following the genuine German hop schedule. This beer has a strong, almost mouth puckering hop finish with a very strong malt flavor. It is light, crisp, clean and dry. The hop finish is almost overwhelming, but not quite. Even though it had a strong brown color in the carboy, it appears amber in a pilsner glass. Carbonation is perfect, if a little on the extra side, which I was shooting for. The head stands up to the end of the glass with some slight lacing on the glass itself. I rate this beer up with some of the best I've ever had.
Here is my recipe. It is a Pilsner Urquell clone.
4 pounds of Alexander's pale malt extract
2 pounds light dry malt
3 ounces Saaz hops added at 20 minute intervals per ounce
Wyeast 2007 liquid Bohemian yeast with a pilsener enzyme added
Bottled with 8 ounces corn sugar for carbonation
I did 3 weeks of primary fermentation followed by 10 days of secondary fermentation.
I will be doing this one again.
I am hereby inviting all of my readers to stop by and sample this fine beer. But be prepared for a European style beer. This ain't no Buttwiper!
UPDATE: In all fairness, home brewed beer is always better than store bought beer simply because it is fresher.
