The ACLU, An Analogy

A reader once asked me, "What is the ACLU?"
I responded, "Well, if you were to compare this country to a neighborhood, it would be like this"

You are a Citizen. (a good and helpful thing)
Your Neighbors are Consumers and Fellow Citizens. (more good and helpful things)
The Big Police Car is Government. (wasteful and inefficient)
The Enormous Ambulance is Health Care. (expensive and ineffective)
The Fire Truck is Tax Benefits. (big and loud but not what you wanted)
The Trouble Making Brat down the street is Crime. (annoying and contemptible)
The Ice Cream Truck is Free Enterprise. (everyone loves it)
The Corner Store is the basis of the Economy. (old and dusty, but familiar)
The Old Biddy across the street poking her nose into everyone's business and giving unwanted opinions and advice is the ACLU. (irritating and useless)
