Banks
I received a letter from a bank the other day. They notified me that they were closing one of my checking accounts. I had forgotten that I even had this account; I hadn’t used it in three or four years. This was a free checking account, or as they called it, ‘Fee Free’. The bank was notifying me that the account was being closed because fees exhausted the funds.
FEES?
This was a ‘FEE FREE’ account!
I asked them if they understood the difference between ‘fee’ and ‘free’. I tried to explain that they were different, exact opposites in fact. I had a losing battle on my hands. The comprehension of my explanation required thought, something they didn’t seem capable of.
The woman asked me if I’d like to open a new account.
I said, “Why don’t I just go outside and set fire to my money? Wouldn’t that accomplish the same thing for me?”
Confusion reigned.
I told her that I now understood why some people rob banks. They don’t want the banks money; they are simply trying to get their own money back!
I now also understand why they made ‘bank’ a four-letter word.
