A Quote From A While Back

Carrie found an old and reasonably profound quote to share.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers!
In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late.
Accordingly, I'm readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and I will in turn, do my best for the Cause by writing editorials - after the fact." -Robert E. Lee - 1863
So true. If the expression "hindsight is 20/20" is true, how come so many of our "media experts" are still stepping in dog $#!+?
I don't know for sure but I‘ll try an educated guess..
I believe that for any news media to work properly, it must present the known facts which are relevant to the story, situation or what ever the item being reported would be called. Questionable or unreliable sources should be identified as such. These facts must be presented in an unbiased manner, showing no favor toward either or if more than two exist, any side.
News media I’ve seen lately seems to favor opinion over fact. This method of ‘reporting’, or more correctly, ‘opinionating‘, cannot result in a unbiased report and cannot be used as a tool for forming an opinion that is uniquely and purely yours.
In a perfect world, news would be presented as pure facts with sources and references which would allow you to comfortably accept them as true, and it would be given in an unbiased fashion, including speech tone, facial expression and body language. This would allow you to form an opinion that truly reflects how you feel and who you are. This would help the entire country substantially at election time.
Without the true and accurate facts offered in this unbiased manner, you cannot form an opinion that suits your beliefs.
Keep a most open mind when listening to ANY 'news' and then be smart enough to mull it over and research your own truths. Don't let the mind get lazy and let the 'major news stations' TELL you what you should be thinking. Think, Think, Think for yourselves.
The trouble with news media today is they will report their 'version' of the news, adjusting it to fit their own agenda. They seem to see nothing wrong with this.
And with the laziness appearing everywhere lately, they don't have the time or the desire to confirm the information they receive. They excuse it by saying they were merely trying to break the story first.
So being first is more important than being accurate.
These stories all apperaed on the news. Did you believe them?
Claim: According to a study by the Lovenstein Institute, President Bush has the lowest IQ of all presidents of past 50 years.
Status: False.
Claim: Some celebrities promised to leave the USA if George W. Bush won the 2000 presidential election.
Status: True.
Claim: Hoping to attract the singer's attention at the March 2002 Presidential Gala, George W. Bush waved at Stevie Wonder.
Status: False.
Claim: President George W. Bush has been nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
Status: True.
I like how some news agencies poll 1,000 people
on a certain subject and treat that info as the gospel.
Sometimes it's not even a thousand. And I'd like to know the demographics of that group. How many were educated? How many were stupid (There are stupid people, and they have as many rights as everyone else. But you do not want their opinion or their advice.)? Was the town drunk included in the poll? What about the village idiot?
See what I'm getting at?
