Rodents And Idiots And Faulty Logic

This story is about who is responible in the Virginia Tech incident involving Cho Seung Hui (pronounced 'asshole son of a bitch'), the rodent who commited the thirty two murders there.

But this is not about the rodent himself, who I believe had the right idea, but did it backwards (he should have shot himself first).

This is about an opinion from a mister Jack Thompson concerning who Jack believes is to blame for that tragedy.

Jack, who is a special person (and by ‘special’, I mean the ‘short bus’ type of ‘special’) wrote a letter to Bill Gates. I don‘t have to say Microsoft, do I?.

Here is the text from that letter.

‘Several Korean youths who knew Cho Seung Hui from his high school days said he was a fan of violent video games, particularly Counterstrike, a hugely popular online game published by Microsoft, in which players join terrorism or counterterrorism groups and try to shoot each other using all types of guns.’”
Mr. Gates, your company is potentially legally liable the harm done at Virginia Tech. Your game, a killing simulator, according to the news that used to be in the Post, trained him to enjoy killing and how to kill. You knew five years ago that your on-line game, Counterstrike, so clearly figured in the massacre by a student in Erfurt that the event and the game impacted the race for Chancellor in Germany at the time!
Yet, here you are, five years after “Erfurt,” still marketing Counterstrike. having done nothing to disable the server(s) for this mass murder simulator, and it looks like “Virginia Tech” is a consequence. There’s more going on in the world than Vista. Just ask the bereaved Virginia Tech families.
Mr. Gates, pull the plug on Counterstrike today, or do we need more dead to convince you? “Virginia Tech” was the 9-11 of school shootings, and it appears Microsoft is in the middle of it, in more ways than one.

Oh gosh, where do I start with this one?

Okay, Jack seems to think that the shootings were Bill Gates’ fault. Not the rodent’s fault, mind you, but Bill’s.

According to Jack, if Bill had not published this video game, these shootings would never have happened,
.
Say that out loud, like you mean it.

Can’t do it, huh?

There’s a reason for that.

The reason is because you are an intelligent person. You know squarely where the blame lies. And it’s not on Bill Gates. It’s on the rodent. The rodent was not a victim. The rodent was a terrorist.

But I’m not playing fair here. I’m putting you, a person who has intelligence, reason and logic, in the same group as Jack. Jack doesn’t have those tools available to him. Jack seems to think that someone else is always responsible for everything.

As far as I can tell, Jack seems to think that when he screws up, it’s not his fault. Nothing is ever his fault. His Dad didn’t love him enough. Or he didn’t have access to the right opportunities. Or maybe the Sun got in his eyes. Or the dog ate his homework.

Or something.

But it certainly is not his fault. As Jack sees it, nothing is ever the perpetrator’s fault.

You think maybe he is an attorney?

I don’t know. But I do know that Jack is an idiot.

Okay now Jack, pull your head out of your ass and listen to me . You are about to receive a valuable education.

What you do IS your fault. Video games, your Father not loving you enough, the dog, the Sun and everything else are not responsible for what you do. They are what we refer to as ‘invalid excuses’.

YOU are responsible for what you do.

The rodent is responsible for all of that senseless killing, not Bill Gates. Bill wasn’t there. And besides, I know Bill Gates. He would never do such a thing. He is fun to hate, because of Windows and all, but it’s not justified. I’ve worked with Bill, and I’ve spoken with him. Bill is a good man. Always was, always will be.

And the VT massacre is NOT Bill’s fault. Never will be.

Now stop looking for someone to blame, Jack. The rest of us already know who’s fault it was.

And the rest of us are right.
