Fire At Will
I've just returned from the fireworks display mentioned below. It was spectacular. It was awe inspiring. It was beautiful. This was not one of those city sponsored productions where you spend half an hour watching one firework go off followed by half a minute of 'oohs and ahhs'. Then repeat. Then wake me up.
No, this was twenty three minutes of constant assault, with several of the big boys going off simultaneously at all times in the air. Meanwhile, several large fountains were continuously being fired from the perimeter. And ground effects at all times were the rule as well, to round it out. You could not blink without missing something. And the reflection of it all from the river made it all the more impressive. Plus the echo of the explosions in the river valley just added to it all in a perfect way.
Then came the finale. One thousand large shells were fired in three minutes. That works out to over five shells a second, one shell being fired every .18 second. For three minutes. Incredible. Magnificent. Spectacular. Awesome. Simply awesome.
One hundred thousand dollars were burned up on that site tonight in twenty three minutes. That sounds foolish, doesn't it?
I guess you had to be there. Because I was there. And of the many different things that is was, foolish was not one of them.
And the best part of it all was easy for me to see.
The best part was that my wife was there with me.
Happy Birthday to the United States of America. This country deserved that.
