River Rats
We were heading up the river from the island when I happened on an amazing sight. Was it Gypsies? Vagabonds? Pirates perhaps?
There were many people on the bank with what looked like crude homemade rafts. I had to stop. These people were from New York. Every Summer, they build these rafts and travel the length of the river. They were an interesting group. Very happy, and slightly drunk. They had fascinating tales to spin. And fascinating watercraft. They even had small outboard motors on them. There were about ten of the crafts and each one held between four and eight people. I gave them a round of my homebrew so they could take in some local culture that they would not find anywhere else. I was so intrigued by this group that I completely forgot to take a picture. Yes, I am kicking myself.
